Hair Color
Mop Top

This look is drawn from a special makeover portfolio Kaz and Sam have developed for this season called "Trend Support."
"We want to show what's current in trends and how to take those ideas and use them in the salon," says Kaz. "It's not about how to create trends but about how to utilize existing trends."
"Rock-and-roll glam" is how Kaz characterizes this look. "It's very sexy and hippie-chick, and perfect for spring." Unique texture, which Sam creates with finger razors, takes the shape beyond retro. Bold, brilliant color slices, emphasize the cut's geometric lines. Turn the page for their technique.

Tools you'll need:

- Begin by carving out a triangular fringe section. Twist lengths once and direct toward what will become the shorter side of the design. Cut straight across.
- This will automatically create an asymmetrical line. Chip into the ends to clean up the edge.
- Take an over-the-head parting from ear to ear. Comb hair down and cut on a sharp downward angle. Again, chip into the ends to refine the line.

- Select finger razors fitted with texturizing blades, and place on the index and ring fingers.
- Working behind the ear, pinch out a parting and place it between the finger razors.Slide cut down the section. Cut more aggressively toward the top to remove more length and with smooth, even pressure toward the ends to remove more weight.

- Work around head with the technique, cutting to create shorter pieces in the top and at the curve of the head. The balance should look like a '70s shag cut.
- For the color application, isolate a diamond-shaped section at the crown. Below the section, take diagonal slices all around the head. Working a half-inch off the base, apply a powder lightener out to the ends and enclose in foil.
- Between foils and at the top and fringe, apply a neutral brown depositing tint.Process 45 minutes and shampoo. Finally, apply a strong red highlight amplifier to the lightened sections only. Process 30 minutes, shampoo and condition.
- To finish, rough up the interior to showcase the texture. In the exterior, wind random small sections onto a curling iron from midstrands down. Don't create too many curls, keep and "un-done" feel.
